Our investment asset model portfolios assess economic trends - in this case as we wrote last week - link here - we highlighted the trends of China and the Global South increasingly diversifying their imports of food and agricultural commodities away from the United States and more towards Global South countries like Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia and Malaysia as examples.
This focuses our attention to investable companies in Global South countries or with some focus on business activity in the Global South.
We then integrate the analysis with our key investment approach-based metrics which we look at, emphasizing good free-cash-flowing businesses with manageable debt and limited leverage, with stable or decreasing (through cash-based buybacks not debt-based buybacks) outstanding shares in the recent past and with preferably a good dividend-paying distribution.
We also consider various companies with various business models in the food and agriculture space - from fertilizers to advanced technologies to overall farming operations to simply agricultural land holdings.
